Is There A Difference In The Values Of The Two Major Parties

Every time we turn on the news we here questions ask like, In the wake of the Foley Scandal can the Republicans really call themselves the party of values. In realm of political power you do not judge the values of a party based on what one person does but rather you judge the values based on the actions of the majority of the members of the party in reaction to the misdeeds of one of its members. In any group of millions of people you are going to find a few perverts and people who are corrupt. The question is do the vast majority of people in the group support or protect the behavior or do they condemn it.

Congressman Foley had no choice to resign. He knew that the vast majority of Republicans in congress would not support him. More importantly he knew that that there was no chance the Republicans of his state would support him. The values of the people of his party would not allow that.

In a similar situation when it came out that a homosexual prostitution ring was being run from Democrat Congressman Barney Franks home there was no outcry. In fact all most all Democrats defended him and the Democrats of his state have re-nominated him ever since.

From the day that Bill Clinton announced that he was running for president there were rumors of his having affairs. When it came out in the media that the rumors were true the vast majority of Democrats stood behind him. When a former Miss America claimed to have been forced by Bill Clinton to have sex with him (her words were rapped) the Democrats stood in faithful support. When news article appeared documenting that He used the police men appointed to protect him to use their power to get women to be alone with him no one in the party said anything. When he had sex with an intern they rallied behind him. When he lied about it under oath they defended him. So I assume that Democratic Party values are that it is ok to use your power to seduce women and to lie before a Grand Jury. At least that is what the vast majority of both elected and non-elected Democrats proved.

When Sandy Berger who was Democrat the National Security Advisor during the Clinton Administration. Sandy Berger became the focus of a criminal investigation after he was caught removing highly classified terrorism documents and handwritten notes from the National Archives during preparations for the Sept. 11 commission hearings. Again there was no outcry from Democrats. How can it be that virtually no Democrats voiced out rage at stealing classified documents to cover the actions of the administration that you had belong to? I guess that Democrat values are that it is ok to steel and participate in political cover up.

On Sunday, the June 18, 2000, the headline of the Washington Post read, "Political Dirty Tricks Alleged in Alabama Trial. Two Democrats are on trial in Alabama for bribing a prostitute to claim that Republican Gubernatorial candidate Steve Windom raped her. Steve Windom was elected Governor of Alabama when she confessed. Again in 1998 when this happened there was no outcry from Alabama Democrats or Democrats anywhere else. Seams that the values of the Democrat Party find this acceptable.

On May 16th, 2000 delegates of the New York Democrat convention spat upon the Honor Guard and called them Nazis as the carried the Flag into the convention. No one in the crowd of delegates tried to stop them. Note that these were not anarchists out side, these were Democrat delegates on the floor of the convention. This story was all over the New York Media. Senator Clinton was nominated at this convention. Did she speak out against this? No! Neither did any prominent Democrats. It seams that spitting on New York Policemen and calling them Nazis while they carry the American Flag is an acceptable value in the Democrat party.

There was not out cry among Democrats when the Clinton administration collected over 1200 FBI files of Republicans. They worked in unison to hinder the investigation and defended the Clinton administration vigorously. The Democrats are supposed to be the party that wants to protect privacy. I guess the acceptation is when members of their party break the law and collect private FBI files. The Democrat values must be we respect the privacy of our friends and no one else.

The Democrat Governor of New Jersey, James McGreevey admitted to having a gay affair. Resigned after allegations of sexual harassment, rumors of being blackmailed on top of fundraising investigations and indictments. While he did resign there was a lack of public outrage expressed by fellow Democrats.

In the mid 1990s Democrat Congressman from Illinois, Melvin Reynolds was indited on 17 federal charges and plead guilty to two counts of misuse of public funds. Democrat congressman from Michigan, Charles Diggs JR. was convicted of sexual misconduct and Obstruction of Justice. Again the while the Democrats did not endorse their actions they did not stand up and publicly condemn them either.

As you read this you may not remember many of these stories. The made the news but they got very little coverage. The Media Research Center researched two of these stories. In the three weeks after the Foley story broke the three major networks (CBS, NBC and ABC) had broadcast 153 stories about the Foley Story. Above I mentioned the Melvin Reynolds story. Between the 1994 indictment and 1995 conviction of Melvin Reynolds the tree major networks broadcast a total of 19. Could the difference of 192 stories in three weeks and the 19 stories in a year and half which include both indictments, the trial and the conviction have anything to do with the myriad of surveys that show that 4 of 5 people in the media are registered Democrats.

Another example of the difference between the values of the parties is how they react to domestic terror. There are two major areas of domestic terrorism. One is those acts committed by radical prolife members against abortion clinics and the other are those committed by radical environmentalists and animal rights groups.

Most prolife members belong to or vote for Republicans. Whenever there is an act of violence committed by a prolife extremist there is an instant outcry from Republicans both among the leadership and the rank in files members. The leaders of the prolife movement and all the conservative churches stand up and condemn the actions.

Most members of the environmentalist and animal rights groups belong to or vote for Democrats. Yet when you hear of buildings on college campuses being burned or people assaulted by radical members of these groups you do not hear Democrats coming out and condemning the actions. Neither does the leaders of the environmentalist and animal rights movements.

Another thing to mention in this area is the difference in the amount of extremist between the two groups. Over the past twenty years there have only been a few dozen bombings and fires at abortion clinics and a few doctors assaulted. On the other hand last year alone there was over 100 fires and vandalism on college campuses against buildings where animal research is done and other types of research that these movements oppose. There were thousands of SUVs vandalized and thousands of people assaulted for either driving an SUV or wearing real or fake fur. All of this in only one a year time.

I am happy that everyone I know that considers them selves Republican and all most all Republican leaders condemn Congressman Foleys actions. I think it is ironic that the Democrats suddenly find the values to condemn Congressman Foley. But as you can see from their history this is political maneuvering. Because history shows that if Congressman Foley was a Democrat they would either stand behind him or be silent.

So Yes I do see a major difference in the values of the two parties.

Michigan Football Tickets - Do They Hold The Same Value As 10 Years Ago?

Over time, Michigan football tickets have become special for many reasons. The Wolverines not only have the most wins for a college football program in the United States, but as of this writing they also have the highest winning percentage of any major college team. For over 100 years, the Wolverines have been winning in a big way, counting over 850 victories to their credit during that time.

However, the Wolverines have struggled a bit in recent years as teams in the Big Ten have begun to compete with them on a regular basis. There does need to be a disclaimer in place, however, in that an off year for the Wolverines would be an outstanding season for most other programs. Regardless, Michigan fans have come to expect a certain level of dominance over time, and a look at the past few seasons may show why the perception is that the team isnt the premier program it once was.

The Start of the Perceived Decline

The Wolverines won their first Modern Era national championship in 1997 after finishing an undefeated season. It was the pinnacle for a program that had won six Big Ten titles in the previous 10 seasons, and the Wolverines were heroes to students, fans and alumni all over the world. Players such as Brian Griese and Charles Woodson were the stars of that team, and the program appeared to be as strong as ever.

The team had another strong year in 1998 when they won another Big Ten title, but did not go to the Rose Bowl that year due to a tiebreaker rule. They followed that season with another strong 10-2 record in 1999 but failed to win the Big Ten, finishing behind Wisconsin, who went to the Rose Bowl and represented the Big Ten with a victory.

It was the dawn of the 21st Century that led to fans and alumni grumbling that the program was starting to decline. You wouldnt have known it based on sales of Michigan football tickets, as the Big House was and is still packed for every game with over 100,000 fans. However, the Wolverines lost three games in 2000 and did not advance to the Rose Bowl.

2001 led to more grumbling, as the team lost four games, including losses to hated rivals Michigan State and Ohio State. They also lost to Tennessee in the Florida Citrus Bowl. The Wolverines lost three games in each of the next three seasons, and an even more troubling trend began to emerge - the Wolverines had lost their recent dominance over the Buckeyes. This, perhaps more than any other factor, has led to dissatisfaction among Wolverine fans.

The bottom appeared to fall out in 2005, when the team posted a 7-5 record and lost to Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio State and Nebraska. 7-5 may be a good record for most programs, but its unacceptable in Ann Arbor, and Coach Lloyd Carr is feeling the heat these days.

The Decline in Reality

A look at the numbers shows a slight, but not rapid, decline in Michigans winning percentage. Since they began to play football in 1883, the Wolverines won 75% of their games. Since 2001, Michigan is 44-18, which still results in a 70% winning percentage. So then, why do fans perceive the Wolverines to be in decline? Probably two reasons more than any others - they have not been beating Ohio State with regularity, losing three of the last four games against the Buckeyes. They have also lost 11 games in the past three years, which is more than fans are accustomed to.

What does all of this mean? First, the program is not in decline. They had a tough year in 2005, but that will most likely look like an aberration 10 years from now. Secondly, Michigan football tickets are as special as they ever have been.

Aside from redefining its luxury SUV segment, Volvo released its recent pride called XC90 to etch a milestone that is anticipated to create a remarkable boost in the sales and profitability aspects of the automaker in the coming years.

“The XC90 will boost our sales. It will take us close to 500,000 units per year. A milestone on our daring journey towards the 600,000 mark,” says Hans-Olov Olsson, President and CEO of Volvo Cars. “The new XC90 is also redefining the luxury SUV segment. It is the first in the next generation of SUVs. It offers a unique package, unmatched by any of our competitors,” Olsson added.

FPS games such as Quake III are fast paced games which generate a lot of energy and adrenaline rush. To take the Quake III experience to the next level, being skillful and adept at using the weapons involved, really helps.

The most basic weapon in Quake III is the gauntlet. It is an effective weapon at a very close range as it deals a lot of damage to the opponent if struck properly. If your strafing is good, then you can use a gauntlet against an opponent holding the rail gun. Avoid using it against rocket launchers, plasma guns or shotguns.

The default weapon is the machine gun. The damage it does is low but the accuracy rate is very high at both long and short range. Also the attack speed of the weapon is very fast. It is a good weapon to use to hunt down opponents running away at very low health.

Shotguns are very useful at short range. They cause damage depending on how accurate the shot is, up to enough damage to kill an opponent, in just two accurate hits. 3 - Fast Start Bonus

Soft Market + Motivated Seller + 6% Seller Contribution = 5.50% Fixed Rate 30 Year Mortgage Rate Buydown

An anomaly is defined as a deviation from the normal order. At this very moment in many real estate markets in many parts of the country a soft market can lead to opportunities for many buyers.

With many 30 year fixed rate loans with an 80% Loan To Value (LTV) the mortgage program guidelines will allow a seller to pay up to 6% of the buyers closing cost. For example if there is a negotiated sales price of $500,000 with an 80% LTV of $400,000. A seller contribution would be allowed up to 6% on $400,000 mounts up to $24,000. This would need to be a very motivated seller who needs to sell now. Unless a borrower tolerates total gouging on closing costs, this would be a heavy amount. However, a sum of $8,000 to $10,000 or less would handle the closing costs for this property, not including prepaids such as insurance and tax escrows. On the surface, it would seem the difference between $24,000 less say $10,000 would allow $14,000 in additional costs. With todays rates, a one percent (1%) lender discount could buy the rate down from say 6.25% to a rate of 5.5%. Thus, $400,000 x 1% = $4,000.00. A buyer borrower would need to be armed with the facts prior to negotiating a real estate contract so that the seller can determine their bottom line at closing.

For the benefit of the buyer, if they are going to stay in the home for a long-term period then there will be great benefits for the buyer to get a lower rate. Looking at the principal and interest payment for $400,000 at 6.25%, 30-year term the payments then is $2,462.87/month for principal and interest. With the same terms with a rate of 5.5% the payment is $2,271.16/month for principal and interest. That would result in a monthly savings of ($2,462.87- $2,271.16) is $191.71/month in savings versus a 6.25% interest rate.
Example of payment at 6.25% shows $2,462.87/month x 360 months = $886,633.20
Example of payment at 5.50% shows $2,271.16/month x 360 months = $817,617.60
Life Time Mortgage Savings------------- $ 69,015.60

A borrower simply being armed with the information on a rate buy down can enter negotiations that may lend some long term benefits. Six months ago, seller help was just a dream. Today, its a real consideration of any purchase. Will it last forever? No, its an anomaly. Temporary and fleeting. Sobuyers need to get it while they can.

Where are these opportunities to be found? In any area look for vacant homes, on a lock box with some sort of sales pressure. If the lender allows for a 6% seller contribution of the contract price on say an 80% Loan To Value loan then why not go for it. Many of these potential properties can be searched and identified using a Realtor and the local MLS system. Builders who are setting on a huge inventory of homes may be willing to grant major concessions in order to keep the price levels consistent until the home prices firm up. This would be a situation where a borrower would need to determine that the market in that particular subdivision is at a temporary lull and not a trend. Otherwise it would be a case of throwing good money after bad. Working with a Realtor who knows the market will go a long way in avoiding those kinds of pitfalls in builder subdivisions where resale homes are less than the new homes on the market. In that case, the builder is upside down on pricing. This will need to be avoided. What we are talking about here is temporary anomalies that a buyer will want to exploit, like now in the current market. The best evidence of a buyers market is where there are more homes for sale than ready buyers and there is a glut of homes on the market just sitting. A forest of for sale signs.

With lower priced homes with say FHA and VA loans there be an opportunity where the seller in addition to paying all the closing cost and prepaids could pay say 2 points to buy the rate down on a 2-1 Buydown Program. The beauty of this program allows a buyer to buy using a FHA mortgage with as little as a 3% investment and a VA mortgage with zero down. This is a great program of for Debt To Income challenged borrowers who are just squeaking into the property.

If the rate were 6.75% on a mortgage of $205,000 on a thirty-year basis the payment would normally be $1,329.63/month for principal and interest. If the taxes are $300/month, the hazard insurance is $220/month and Mortgage Insurance Premium (MIP) of $85.42/month then the total payment is $1,935.05 per month with $1,050 in installment and credit card debt for a total monthly debt load of $2,985.05 including the new housing expense. If the income were $6,395/month the Debt To Income (DTI) ratio would be around 47%. Lets assume, due to credit history and other factors, the underwriter is not willing to accept this level of DTI nor will any Automatic Underwriting system accept it. An alternative would be to consider the 2-1 Buydown Program with the first year interest rate of 6.75% - 2% = 4.75%, the second year would be 6.75%-1%= 5.75% with the third year and beyond 6.75%. With this program the borrower can qualify at the start rate of 4.75%. The principal and interest payment with this start rate is $1,069.38/month or $260.25/month less at the fully loaded rate of 6.75%. The DTI than is 42.60% and the underwriter will sign off on that. The theory is that the borrowers will have two years to cut debts and increase their income and get their ratios in a more satisfactory position.

Whats the point of all this. If the home is selling for $208,200 and the seller is willing to pay up to closing costs and prepaids which would be $208,200 x 6% = $12,492 and the costs add up to say $9,500, why not use the allowable seller contribution to buy down the loan rate. The main benefit is to get the borrowers DTI in line and lower the payment in the early years all funded with the seller contribution. VA loans can go much higher and in certain areas, FHA loans can go a lot higher as well.

This anomaly will not last. It is a buyers market so why not maximize the buyers benefits by applying part of the 6% sellers contribution to buy the loan down and not leave any money at the closing table which can be utilized for the buyers benefit. Negotiation is king.

Quick and Easy Sour Cream Crescent Rolls

If you would like to serve fresh homemade crescent rolls for a special dinner or family get-together, this recipe takes only 2 hours from start to finish.

~ 2 packages of dry yeast (or 4 teaspoons bulk yeast)
~ 1 cup warm water
~ 1 cup buttermilk (or 1 cup milk with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice added)
~ 1/2 cup sour cream (use light sour cream, if you like)
~ 1 stick butter (or margarine) softened (if you want a lighter version of dinner rolls, use a half stick)
~ 1/3 cup sugar
~ 1 teaspoon salt
~ 6-7 cups flour

Dissolve the yeast in the warm water. Add buttermilk, sour cream, butter (or margarine), sugar, salt and 2 cups of flour. Use an electric mixer or a wire wisk and blend for several minutes. Add the remaining flour. Knead for several minutes. Let the dough rest for 20 minutes.

To make the crescent rolls: divide the dough in half. Roll each half into a 12-inch circle (mine usually ends up being more of rectangle than a circle, but it works, so who cares?).

Spread soft butter onto the circle of dough. Cut the circle in half. Cut each half into quarters. Then cut each quarter into three pieces (as if you are cutting a pie).

Roll up each piece of dough, beginning with the wide end. Place on a greased cookie sheet with the "point" underneath. Let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes before baking.

Bake at 350 for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool for 10 minutes and remove from the cookie sheet.

This recipe makes 2 dozen crescent rolls. Total time (including time to bake) is about 2 hours.

Murder, Policies and Procedures

On a recent Sunday, the Philadelphia Inquirer shocked our local community by stating the obvious: "Even after the carnage at an Amish school in Lancaster County last week, a spot check by Inquirer reporters found a surprising number of security lapses at schools across the region. In spite of rules aimed at limiting public access, reporters who fanned out on a single day walked into more than a dozen schools unannounced and without being challenged." Schools Caught Short on Security, The Philadelphia Inquirer, October 8, 2006

Many people think that security is the security manager's issue. However, on a recent blog post, I stated: "You can't rely on your employees and consultants to use common sense when it comes to your company's security. Remember to continually communicate the boundaries of permission to remind everyone that safety and security are team issues."

In the case of the school security breaches, well-meaning teachers and students, as well as hapless employees and contractors, provided unauthorized and unsupervised access. Luckily, the intruders were reporters; there were no casualties other than reputations and peace of mind.

In order to understand why this security lapse is particularly astonishing at this time, here is the background for those who don't live in Pennsylvania and may not know: A gunman had recently invaded a one room Amish schoolhouse, killing 5, severely injuring 5, and traumatizing the whole community. Subsequently, the often repeated message has been, if this can happen at that one room schoolhouse in the middle of the countryside in a peace-loving community, it can happen anywhere. We should step up efforts to keep our kids safe because of the high likelihood of copycat crimes.

These security lapses occurred at a time of heightened security. If a murderer had come sneaking in the side door, the consequences would have been very deadly. While most of us don't have to worry quite this much about our policies and procedures, it made me stop and think.

There were policies in place at all of the schools. Some of the policies were better than others, but each had security policies. When questioned, school authorities stated that there were policies that were not followed. For some reason, it seemed as though some felt that this settled everything, though I was left with many questions:

* Are the procedures written in light of actual practices/are they practical?
* Who is responsible for verifying that policies and procedures are followed?
* How is accountability ensured?
* What is the personal consequence of causing a security breach?
* How are the policies and procedures communicated, and how can we be sure that the involved parties understand them?
* What are you doing to make sure that these kids are safe, both now and in the future?
* How are updates communicated?

You can use these questions to consider the effectiveness of the security policies and procedures for your business as well. (There are many kinds of policies and procedures; this discussion focuses on security.) Many people view policies and procedures as an unpleasant set of paperwork that is at times needed for regulatory or legal reasons. However, policies and procedures should be meaningful roadmaps to better business practices.

In the case of security, the documents are "organic". The procedures will change with advances in technology, or changes in criminal behavior. Policies and procedures are purposeful; when it comes to security, following policies and procedures should prevent or limit loss. However, misunderstandings can instead cause confusion and create risk.

The good news: There are many things that you can do to create a framework for success and thwart would-be crimes; put your documentation to work! You can use the following suggestions to ensure that your policies and procedures aren't just sitting in a drawer collecting dust.

If you don't have policies and procedures in place, begin with your most pressing concerns. You can update documents later as needed, but it's important to gain and keep momentum or the project will stall. Once the writing begins, you will immediately find gaps and broken processes that need to be addressed. If a manager is doing the writing, he or she is likely to have starts and stops as attention is given to management issues. This can be frustrating.

Many managers enjoy outsourcing the work to a writer so that they can fix processes quickly without affecting the project schedule. Most technical writers offer free estimates and are happy to discuss your project with you. You may also request quotes from more than one company to comparison shop.

Create a communication plan. For instance, send out a section per week for review instead of one overwhelmingly large document, and meet later in the week to discuss that section.

Make information relevant. The best way to do this is for the manager to write a follow-up note or lead a discussion regarding the manager's specific concerns with the team. For example, "Procedure 3.1 states that company laptops must be secure, but it doesn't elaborate. As part of the sales force, your laptop travels with you and security is really essential here. These are the types of things that I feel are necessary to improve physical security, as well as data security" In this way, the employees are relating the procedures to their own personal experiences and situations.

Cover all your bases. Make sure that there is a system in place to thoroughly disseminate the information. In this case, schools needed to communicate with teachers, other employees, students, parents, and contractors. When you need to educate a broad audience, you must have a plan. Don't assume that people will pick up the information by osmosis.

Reinforce the information. Using training classes, online quizzes, and class discussions reinforces the concepts and gives people a chance to apply their new knowledge. Providing employees with job aids, such as quick reference cards, will also help them to gain proficiency.

Allow for input. Hold employee roundtable discussions or encourage employees to provide input to the managers. In many respects, employees are your first line of defense against disaster.

Establish accountability. If a person knows that there will be random security checks, he/she will be much more likely to self-check. It's human nature. Along the same lines, managers who create a compliance audit plan are more likely to follow up than those who do not.

Apply the rules to everyone. I have heard it said that managers who feel that the rules don't apply to them create the biggest risk to corporate IT security. In fact, the clearance held by top executives means that they are the greatest risk, and they should probably be even more careful (not less).

If you havent given much thought to the specific direct sales or home party sales company youd like to join, now is the time to consider that. In order to succeed in the home party business, its important that you choose a product that you use or would use yourself. Selling something about which you are passionate is much easier than selling something about which you have no interest. If you dont use plastic containers that burp, selling them will probably be difficult. If you dont wear a lot of jewelry, then a jewelry home party plan is not the one for you.

Every day, new party plans and direct sales companies are being formed. Why? Because in the 1980s it was discovered that this continues to be one of the best ways of selling. Some products really need to be seen and demonstrated, and home parties are a way of having those products demonstrated. Even though our lives get busier, and people say they have no time for themselves or their families, the home party business thrives.

Perhaps you are aware of some of the home party plans in existence. Perhaps not. Do a computer search to find all the home party sales companies you can on the Internet. I think youll be surprised at the number and at the kinds of products offered by home parties. There are companies selling Christian merchandise, candles, make-up, jewelry, crafts, home dcor, gifts, coffee, and much, much more.

Its important to interject here that home party sales is not a get-rich-quick-scheme. Working in the direct sales/home party sales industry requires work. But the rewards are many. Most home parties now boast of having average sales of $300-800 per show. Most offer commissions of 20-30%. If each show requires an hour of pre-show preparations, three hours to travel and demonstrate, and an hour of post-show paper work, that means that each show or demonstration will require an average of five hours of your time. At the lowest earnings (20% of a $300 average show), the earnings would be $60 or $12 per hour. And thats not bad for a part time job that allows you to choose the days and time when you work. At the highest level (30% of $800), the earnings would be $48 per hour. Thats why its important to choose the company and the products that interest you most. If you enjoy representing the company, youll want to build your business, and the chance of earning about $25 per hour of your time is not unreasonable. But, I emphasize, the money doesnt just come in while you sleep. With home parties, you do have to prospect for sales and demonstrate. And that requires your time and effort.

Besides showing an interest in the product being offered, another deciding factor in choosing a company to represent is what the start-up cost will be for you. Most companies offer a sales kit which does require a out-of-pocket expense. Most dont charge retail prices for their sales kits, and they include catalogs and sales tools in the kits. There are companies that dont charge for kits. Instead, they make the sales consultants sign an agreement to return the kit if they dont earn it by selling a predetermined amount. Some companies allow you to earn your kit by having a show in your own home. Someone else, a manager perhaps, usually conducts that first show and reaps the benefits of the commission. But you earn the sales kit. How much you have to invest in a new venture will be another determining factor in choosing a home party sales company. As you research the different companies available, youll want to take note of what is required to get started.

The third consideration when choosing a direct sales or home party plan business is what training and support you can expect. If were recruited by a local person, you can expect more training and support. Many companies offer official training classes, regular sales meetings, season kick-offs and award ceremonies. Brand new companies may not have any representatives in your area, and any training may be done by video tapes, email and long distance phone calls.

Whether you should choose a well-known older company to represent or a brand new one, is another thing to factor into your choice of companies. There are reasons for choosing either. You wont have to explain the business of an older well-known company. People will already know. However, they may tell you they have enough of that particular product, because theyve been to so many parties.

A newer company will require that you educate your friends and relatives and the public more about the products and the company. There probably wont be any others in the area on whom you can lean for support. But for many, being in on the "ground floor is attractive, and outweighs not having local support.

The choice of what kind of product and company youd like to represent is your own. Although it would be nice if your friends and family will agree to be some of your first customers, it isnt wise to let them choose the company you represent.

Yes, the choice is yours and yours alone. I suggest that while you search the Net for these opportunities, you keep track of the pros and cons of each company you investigate. Doing research and keeping track of the benefits of each company will help you make a wise choice.

How To Figure Out Your Per Mail Peice Budget

So you have a direct mail budget but not sure if you should send as many as possible, or put more effort into a smaller group.

Here is an example for a product and only considering the first sale:

Lets say that with 50 new sales your cost per unit is $135 each (Overhead, materials, labor, etc). No Marketing.

Lets assume with 100 new sales that drops to $100 per unit.

Then finally at 250 new sales your cost is $75 each.

Then lets assume you average $250 of gross income sale and you need at least $5000 more gross profit out of this campaign. After that $25 for each sale.

That means you can spend $15 per sale to sell 50 units.

You have $84 ea left for 100 units.

And $133 ea for 250.

If you spend $15 each for 50 new sales then you can only send out 2,500 30 cents mailers and you would require a 2 percent conversion rate. That is high for most mailing campaigns.

If you end up spending $84 per new sale for 100 that would be 28,000 30 cent mailers. You would need a 1/3 of a percent conversion rate, much easier than 2%.

If you end up spending $133 per new sale for 250 that would be 110,000 30 cent mailers. You would only need a 1/4 of a percent conversion rate.

Now to the point.

As you can see, the more TOTAL # of sales the more you can spend to get them and the lower the acceptable response RATE is. As you broaden your demographics and the response rate decreases you end up needing to send so many you cant find enough good prospects. At that point you would NEED to put more effort into a smaller group to increase the total number of sales.

So if you can afford $2,500 per mailing and you have 8,000 good prospects then a cheap 30 cent mailer is probably just fine. If you have 2,000 in your TOP tiers and 8,000 is dipping down into 3rd and 4th, then I would do a nicer mailer for 1-3,000 and then with the left over money send as many as possible of the cheapest mailer to the other prospects. The cheapest mailer may end up going to your TOP tiers with the nicer mailers going to the harder to convert prospects. Each business is different, so each campaign will also be different.

It should not come as a surprise that what we have for breakfast, lunch or dinner has an effect on how well we think. After all, our brain is very particular about food requirements. If it is possible to boost mind performance through diet, it must definitely be worth a try. So, how would the smart food plan be?

Any eating plan aiming to high mental performance should include the following:

Steady supply of glucose - and this means first, do not skip breakfast; second, eat at regular intervals, and grab a snack when needed to keep glucose levels steady. People who skip breakfast perform worse at work or school. And, while any kind of breakfast is better than no breakfast, fizzy drinks and sugary snacks will not pave the way to peak mental state.

High fiber - beans, pulses, wholegrain cereals, vegetables and fruit. High fiber diets have been linked to better learning and reasoning.

B vitamins - whose brain boosting powers have been demonstrated meat, eggs, dairy, yeast extracts and vegetables.

Antioxidants - including beta carotene, vitamins C and E, for protection against free radicals; found in vegetables and fruits. Antioxidants not only protect your cognitive skills but also may reduce the risk of heart disease and protect against certain forms of cancer. Another good reason to increase your vegetable intake.

Nutrients required to produce neurotransmitters - for instance, eggs are rich in choline, a nutrient that helps to stave off memory loss due to ageing. Yogurt and turkey are rich in tyrosine, precursors of other important neurotransmitters. Tyrosine becomes depleted when we are under stress. We do not need to learn the whole list if we ensure our diet is varied enough. A varied diet guarantees an adequate supply of micronutrients without having to perform complicate calculations. When a food group is excluded, either for health reasons or preference, it is necessary to check if we need to supplement of certain nutrients.

The right fat our brain is mostly fat and the latest evidence suggests that trans-fatty acids congest the system while omega-3 fatty acids keep it working. And where can you find omega-3 fatty acids? The best source is oily fish, packed not only with omega-3 but also many other brain friendly minerals and nutrients, not present in other vegetable sources of this fatty acids, like flax. Fish is indeed brain food.

How do we put all these together? It might seem an impossible task; relax it can be achieved. Feel free to modify these suggestions to suit your taste and seasonal food availability.

SAMPLE MENU I

Breakfast - Baked beans on wholegrain toast.
Lunch - Curried egg salad with plenty of lettuce, shredded carrots, tomatoes, scallions, a few scattered nuts and an olive oil dressing. Yogurt.
Snack - Small dark chocolate bar.
Dinner - Wild salmon steak with asparagus and brown rice. Finish with strawberries.

SAMPLE MENU II

Breakfast - Yogurt with blueberries. Oats.
Lunch - Three bean salad with tuna, tomatoes and onions. Orange juice.
Snack - Your favorite nut butter on wholegrain bread.
Dinner - Curried turkey, broccoli, and sweet potatoes. Traditional banana and egg custard as dessert.

One point to remember is that one can have too much of a good thing. For instance, eating mango for breakfast, carrots for lunch and sweet potatoes for dinner, daily, beta carotene levels will be very high; in fact, too high, and keeping this sort of diet for long will produce an unhealthy yellowish skin color. There is not need either to eat fish or eggs every single day, as there are other foods with equally high nutrition value.

Choosing and Using Your Pumpkin

Its officially fall, the pumpkins have arrived. Our local pumpkin patch is in full swing. Its time to pull out the carving tools and pie recipes. Here are some tips to help you choose the right pumpkin for your purpose.

For cooking and pie making, choose a pie pumpkin or sugar pumpkin variety. These pumpkins are not as fibrous as the large carving pumpkins and will produce a better taste and texture. If these are not available, a small to medium-small size tender carving pumpkin will do if you must.

Choosing a Pumpkin For Carving

If carving is your goal, choose your pumpkin according to the design you have in mind. Small, tender pumpkins are easier for children to carve, but will not last as long as an older tougher shell. Choose a pumpkin large enough for the amount of detail you intend, but not so large as to lose your design. Inspect the pumpkin carefully for bruises, soft spots, or any indications of mold or mildew. Dont forget to inspect the bottom and the top around the stem. Firm hard flesh and a sturdy stem are signs of a healthy pumpkin.

Look for a pumpkin that has a flat spot and will sit upright without toppling. This will help keep it stable for carving and displaying. For longer life, consider painting your pumpkin rather than carving, or wait until the last minute to carve your design.

Prepare your pumpkin for carving or cooking by removing the lid and scooping out the seeds and fibrous mess in the cavity. Be careful to create a ledge when removing the lid, so that it will sit on the pumpkin when replaced. Scrape the flesh clean. The seeds can be saved and toasted later for a tasty treat. For easier carving, remove most of the flesh, leaving about an inch of shell.

Your carved pumpkin will keep longer if soaked in water with a little bleach added. This will kill the mold and rot and help preserve the flesh. After soaking, be careful to dry the pumpkin thoroughly.

Preparing a Pumpkin For Cooking

If baking the pumpkin, leave the shell intact, or halve it according to the size and your intended use. For stewing, peel the pumpkin and cut into uniform size pieces.

This pumpkin puree recipe can be used in any recipe where you might use canned pumpkin puree.

Pure Pumpkin Puree for Pie
1 (6-7 pound) pumpkin
water
1/4 teaspoon salt

1. Halve pumpkin crosswise and scoop our seeds and strings. Place halves in a large baking pan with a bit of water, hollow side down, uncovered.

2. Bake in preheated 375-degree oven 1 - 2 hours or until fork tender. Remove from oven and cool.

3. Scrape pulp from shells and puree, a little at a time, in a blender 15-20 seconds or on high speed in a food processor fitted with a metal chopping blade for 10-15 seconds. Mix in salt. Makes 1 quart.

Pumpkin Pecan Pie
Try this delicious variation of two holiday favorites:
Pumpkin Layer:
1 cup pure pumpkin puree
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1 unbaked 9-inch deep-dish pie shell (4 cup volume)

Pecan Layer:
2/3 cup light corn syrup
cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
3 tablespoons butter or margarine (melted)
teaspoon vanilla
1 cup pecan halves

1. For pumpkin layer: combine pumpkin, sugar, egg and pumpkin pie spice in a medium bowl; stir well. Spread over bottom of pie shell

2. For pecan layer: combine com syrup, sugar, eggs, butter, and vanilla in same bowl; stir in nuts. Spoon over pumpkin layer.

3. Bake in preheated 350-degree oven 50 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Cool on Wire rack. Makes 8 servings

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds
Seeds from 1 pumpkin
Salt

1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

2. Rinse seeds under running water in a colander. Remove all fibers.

3. Lay seeds on paper towel and pat dry.

4. Place seeds on cookie sheet and sprinkle with salt.

5. Bake 30 minutes, stirring occasionally until golden brown.

6. Leave in the pan to cool. Store in a plastic bag.

The True Axis of Evil

Do you remember the movie Star Trek: Generations starring William Shatner and Patrick Stewart? Early on in the movie Dr. Tolian Soran, played by Malcolm McDowell, encounters and is enveloped by the "Nexus", an energy ribbon traveling through space, during which time he experiences complete "rapture". His ecstasy is short-lived, however, as circumstances pull him abruptly back to reality, and he subsequently commits the rest of his life to relocating and re-entering the "Nexus" so that he may live forevermore within its seductive grasp. One small problem. To accomplish this, Dr. Soran must cause the destruction of an entire planet inhabited by billions of souls. If you saw the movie, you know, of course, that ultimately his evil plans are thwarted, and the planet is saved.

That was fiction. What's going on in our world, however, is not, and I've mentioned this movie because I'm truly concerned about the existence on our planet, in our country, and in our heartland of a growing collection of fanatics who in their hearts believe, much like Dr. Soran, that they're entitled to manufacture a path for themselves into the waiting arms of their vision of Heaven, and seem to have no qualms about designating and rejoicing in the end of the world as their gateway to this Nirvana.

My Oh My. Where do people like this come from? Human life is not sacred to them. The world is not precious to them. The physical universe holds no meaning for them. All that really matters is the attainment of "rapture", and even then only for the faithful few. To hell with all the rest. And the sooner this happens the better. Oh, and did I mention the part about complicity in murder? Because, quite frankly, I see very little difference between those who pull the trigger and those who stand by while offering encouragement to the ones pulling the trigger, so that they can then proceed to step over the corpse once the trigger's been pulled.

Until recently, it never occurred to me that humankind would be struggling to save the planet from, among other things, a group of faith-obsessed fundamentalist Christians who're actually endeavoring to hasten its demise. As mind-boggling as this sounds, though, it wouldn't really be anything to worry about except for the fact that these lunatics have allied themselves with what might easily be thought of as the most high-strung, idealogically racist nation on Earth. I'm referring, of course, to the Zionist state of Israel, and Israel, as we all know, is also aligned with Washington's high-strung, idealogically racist Neoconservatives, who likewise share a common vision with the fundamentalist Christians.

And round and round it goes. Where one group stops and another one starts nobody knows. A three-headed hydra gyrating its way through some macabre dance of death, commanding the attentions and loyalties of millions, possessing vast amounts of nuclear armaments, and hell-bent on redefining the priorities which govern our community of nations.

Is it just me, or is this beginning to sound kind of dangerous? I mean, what exactly are we dealing with here, and where will it eventually lead to? Does anyone even know?

The ultimate goal of the Israelis appears to be that of converting the Middle East into one all-encompassing Zionist-dominated region, while the Neocons believe the entire planet would be better off if it were simply "regime-changed" into one all-encompassing Anglo-dominated region; and if neither of these two propositions works out, that's okay, 'cause the Evangalists are praying that none of us survive anyway, as they build a Stairway to Heaven for themselves upon the bones of the countless dead created by the other two.

Pretty gruesome scenario, if you ask me. And yes, maybe I'm exaggerating somewhat, but then again, who'd have thought six years ago that we'd be where we are today, involved in two unending pre-emptive wars and threatening to initiate a third?

In any event, it's only through our acquiescence that the aspirations of such people can ever truly be realized. It's our fear and our ignorance, after all, that they depend on more than anything to catapult them to their goals. And no matter which of these three villians you choose to examine, you'll find the method of operation used is pretty much always the same - generate enough fear, and violence or the acceptance of it will inevitably follow.

The Israelis, for example, have spent decades preying upon the fears of their Arab neighbors, goading and provoking them into violent responses. After all, without the occasional Palestinian bomb or rocket being set off, Israel would have no justification for rolling into the Occupied Territories with their tanks and armies, flattening whole communities, bulldozing orchards, robbing innocent people of their livelihood. Of course, they do this anyway on a regular basis, but without some level of resistance, they're naturally obliged to keep a lid on their criminality. (And I ask you, is that any way of ethnically cleansing the people whose land you're trying to grab?)

As for the Neocons, the power to pursue their violent strategies across our beleaguered globe has been lavished upon them by an American public steeped in fear (not to mention ignorance). Look how easily we allowed ourselves to be swayed by fear when 9/11 occurred, how skillfully this fear was manipulated and exploited, and how transfixed we were in responding to it through violent means.

And then there's the fundamentalist Christians, conjuring up the fear of demons and hobgoblins, while screaming violence at the top of their lungs in the most unchristianlike manner imaginable. Who could have imagined that the road to eternal bliss would be smeared with so much blood?

Put it all together and you've got a very freakish alliance of nearly comical proportions, but of not-so-comical implications - a fear factory, if you will, managed and operated by a small coterie of snake-oil salesmen, propagandizing their barbaric plunder by assuring the workforce that it's all being done in the name of what's right and good. Anxiety and hysteria are their production units, manufactured through an ingenious collage of press briefings, television interviews, and personal appearances, while infectious soundbites and catch phrases are regurgitated ad nauseum, reminding us of the unending need to guard ourselves against the beasts and ogres who threaten our existence.

I'm sorry folks, but the only ogres I see are the ones in the factory board room, spouting lies to justify their own programs of butchery and slaughter.

One might say that there truly is an Axis of Evil in our world, but it doesn't involve Iraq or Iran or North Korea. What it does involve is a group of misguided, miscreant men and women, who've lost all touch with whatever goodness might have at some point in their lives motivated or inspired them, and whose outlook on reality has become so distended over time as to leave the rest of us in complete awe and disbelief.

Why, then, are we allowing the reigns of our planet's destiny to be controlled by such people? Isn't it time to hand these shallow and pretentious con-artists their hats and show them the door? "Mind" and "Moral" Dimensions of The Human

I had talked about five dimensions of the human existence at my previous article.

There are "Subtance dimension", "Physiologycal dimension" and "Psichological dimension" at the animals, also. But other two dimensions belong to the human only. I want to emphasize the last two dimensions for the reason that these are the base of the human manners.

The human gets a "character" and "personality" with to be taken the management of the body by the mind, at the fourth "mind" dimension. Because, the mind is a mechanism that "to think", "to analyse and synthesize", and "to decide". For this reason, this dimension is a dimension that the human behaves according to his self free demands and wishes, with his self free volitions and with his self free decisions. But, in this dimension, desires and wishes of the ego dominate on the manners of person, because, the divine schooling does not be realized, yet. That means, person takes the base thoroughly his self desires and wishes, his own volition, as he decides on any subject.

As a result, in this dimension, the being suitable to the wishes of the person is "good", but the being adverse to the wishes of the person is "bad". For this reason, the person can not escape himself from to be possessive double standart. Because, the same thing and case, as be "good" at a certain time, for suitable to his private benefit, at an other time, is be "bad", for adverse to his private benefit.

An other characteristic of this dimension is to be fond of money, status and havings. In this dimension, as the person takes essence the desires and wishes of his ego as main manager of his manners, everything satisfying this desires gets a big value in his eye. A big fondness arises in his heart for everything satisfying this desires and wishes of his ego. This extreme love and fondness for things such as money, status and havings makes these into a God in owner eye. And makes become merciless and hard-hearted againts the other humans, him.

The annoyances and confusions of the man in this dimension does not never finish. Because, the man in fourth dimension who affiliated to his ego, makes be exhausted every instant of his time of life trying to satisfy the interminable desires and wishes of his ego. Whereas the needs of human is endless. Also the desires and wishes occurring in human ego for these needs, are endless. Does it fihish the annoyances and confusions of the man who tries to do his own every sweet will? For this reason, one of the main characteristics of this fourth dimension is the boredoms, heart unrests, precipitancy.

One of the most important characteristics in this dimension is haughtiness. Haugtiness means to look up himself. This is a spontaneous result of to be ego centered. Because, the ego changes the realities according to itself's desires and wishes. And it looks excellent itself on everybody and everything.

The human in this dimension, also, does not know a "love" in real meaning. Because, the "love" of him is only for his ego and it's desires and wishes. For this reason, he loves everything and everybody satisfying his wishes, and giving the pleasure himself. But, he becomes instantly distant from everything and everybody giving a little trouble himself. He loves the performer any wish of him, he hates from everybody which has't performed his wish.

Therefor, the majority of the humans are very "well" as long as you perform his wishes. "The good and the bad of the human is be understood when you haven't performed his desires."

Shortly, the man in the fourth dimension is a man who is owner "personality", but egoist, tight fisted, atrocious, troubled, unrestful and unloving. Soever, he tries to seem such as a good man for the reason the behavior patterns coming from value judgments placed in society, there is always an egoism under these views. There is a artificiality and a spuriousness in these manners, always.

Everything begins to change, when a person has recognized to resign himself to God and to subject to Him, believing his own Creator. This instant is a instant that the human has took first step to the maturity. The fifth dimension starts here.

The fifth "moral" dimension of the human is a divine schooling duration that its rules is put by God. The name of this schooling duration is the religion. The religion is a mercy and beneficence of God. Unfortunately, only the believings to God and afterdeath take advantage of this mercy and beneficence. This mercy is only for the givings up themselves to God with their heart contentedness. The method of this spiritual ascension and maturation duration is to remember his Creator everytime, and to do "riyazet" and "mucahede". "Riyazet" means to do not the things (forbidden things) which ego wishes, "mucahede" means to do the things (worship and favor) which ego doesn't wish.

During to be completed this maturation duration, doing "riyazet" and "mucahade", the politeness and the maturity of the human increases. He begins to be a "human" in really meaning. The endless desires of the ego being present in his heart be decreased little by little. The person escapes from his ego and egoism. The fondness against the money, status and havings in his heart finishs. The love of God, who is the real deity and is owner the mercy and high favour, takes place in his heart, in place of these fake deities.

If a person be how much sincere in his belief and be desirous in performing the worships for God, this maturation duration be completed so much quickly.

When the love of God was placed to the heart disappearing the other loves and subjections, shortly after, everything changes. The viciousnesses can not be controlled in the societies being deprived of the religion. The society becomes full to overflowing with the humans who tries to crush each other. Therefore, the religion is not a somniferous, but it is a perfection elixir for the human. There are always serenity and happiness at the societies which sincerely lives the religion. A unique and different kind of TV action series, MacGyver made its television premiere in the Fall of 1985 to much fanfare. Audiences immediately responded to the title character and his unusual penchant for turning everyday items like chewing gum and paperclips into elaborate life-saving contraptions. In this way, it maintained a slight resemblance to The A-Team, and this recurring plot device helped MacGyver build a strong cult following

Richard Dean Anderson plays the title role of MacGyver, an energetic employee of the fictional Phoenix Foundation for Research. An unorthodox hero by action series standards, MacGyver has a deadly fear of heights. A pacifist who refuses to use weapons, he relies heavily on his ability to use his brain and tinker with the various materials at his disposal. MacGyver's best friend, and the director of the Phoenix Foundation, is Pete Thornton (Dana Elcar). Pete often sends MacGyver on Foundation missions and sometimes comes to his aid (usually after MacGyver has saved the day). In addition, MacGyver is joined on a regular basis by his airplane pilot friend Jack Dalton (Bruce McGill), a man who constantly entangles himself in illegal activities and other troublesome situations. Between the usual slew of bad guys, the vendetta of archenemy Murdoc (Michael Des Barres), and his multitude of troublesome friends, MacGyver is always in the midst of interesting and dangerous events, and the show's true entertainment value derives from watching MacGyver's distinctive method of dealing with each one

The MacGyver (Season 2) DVD features a number of action-packed episodes including the season premiere "The Human Factor" in which MacGyver and the Phoenix Foundation are called upon to test the security of a top-secret military installation. When MacGyver makes a bet with the security designer, Dr. Jill Ludlum, he successfully gains entry, but the automated system traps them both inside (with a dwindling supply of oxygen) where they're forced to race for their lives against a ticking clock Other notable episodes from Season 2 include "The Road Not Taken" in which MacGyver encounters his former fiance while helping a nun, and "Birth Day" in which MacGyver must guard a pregnant woman from her husband, who's out to kill her
